I named this salve after my Great Great Grandmother Anna Helaga, in her honor.
She migrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia but she was originally
from Austria-Hungry. When she was pregnant with my Great Grandmother her
husband, my Great Great Grandfather, passed away in the flu pandemic of 1918.
Forced to raise all of her kids on her own, one of the things she did to earn
money to support them was she would grow impatiens from seed to sell.

Now, over 100 years later, in the next pandemic, I find myself growing flowers
and herbs from seed to sell. While her green thumb was a means of survival, I
can't help but feel this deep connection to a woman I never knew.
