These pictured here are not your “regular” lip balms. The shimmering
formulation for these fun and colorful lip balms starts with an herbal infusion
of Calendula, Manjistha and Rose Petals, to which nourishing butters,
regenerating essential oils and healing flower essences are added. The
beautiful deep red/orange of the herbal infusion not only imparts a refreshing
petal-kissed stain on the lips (or cheeks), but also helps support lymphatic
drainage. How so, you might ask? Nature never leaves anything to chance. Every
detail is a message. Color for instance gives us a clue on what systems an herb
or flower might be acting on primarily. The deep red of Rubia cordifolia roots
(Manjistha) signals an affinity for Rasa dathu, or the primary waters of the
body, i.e. your precious lymph. Calendula has a similar effect. I consider
these two herbs sisters, and often combine them in massage oils as well. Wait,
what does lymph have to do with your lips? It might be of interest to learn
that pathways for lymph drainage ending in all the submandibular nodes,
actually begin at the upper and lower lip. This is why it is important to avoid
toxic lipsticks and other chemicals on our precious lips. Above all, these lip
balms taste delicious and somehow remind me of disco days.
